Geometry Definitions

Hello you lovely learners!

For homework tonight, you had to find the definitions for the following geometry terms:
  • equilateral triangle
  • isosceles triangle
  • scalene triangle
  • pentagon
  • hexagon
  • octagon
  • parallelogram
  • trapezoid
You can post your definitions straight to the blog as a comment, if you like.  Just remember to include your name.

See you tomorrow!

-Ms. Lewis.

equilateral triangle - A triangle with all three sides of equal length.

All the angles will be 60°

isosceles triangle - A triangle with two equal sides

The angles opposite the equal sides are also equal

scalene triangle - A triangle with all sides of different lengths.

No sides are equal and no angles are equal

pentagon - A 5-sided polygon (a flat shape with straight sides).

hexagon -A 6-sided polygon (a flat shape with straight sides).

octagon - An 8-sided polygon (a flat shape with straight sides).

parallelogram - Opposite sides are parallel and equal in length, and opposite angles are equal

NOTE: Squares, Rectangles and Rhombuses are all Parallelograms!

trapezoid - A trapezoid (UK: trapezium) is a quadrilateral with one pair of opposite sides parallel.

It is not a parallelogram because only one pair of sides is parallel.

It is called a regular trapezoid if the sides that aren't parallel are equal in length and both angles coming from a parallel side are equal

  3. equilateral triangle all sides are equal in the triangle
isosceles triangle a triangle with 2 equal sides
scalene triangle a triangle with 0 equal sides
pentagon a shape with 5 sides
hexagon a shape with 6 sides
octagon a shape with 8 sides
    parallelogram the sides never meet
    trapezoid the sides arent parallel

  4. Great, Yesehak! A trapezoid has one set of parallel lines, and a parallelogram has two sets of parallel lines.

How did you find your answers? Thanks for posting them here.
